Different Kinds of Sentences: Assertive, Interrogative, Imperative, Optative, Exclamatory অর্থ (Sense) বা উদ্দেশ্য (Purpose) অনুসারে Sentence পাঁচ প্রকার-
Different Kinds of Sentences
Classification According to Purpose
(1) Assertive or Declarative Sentences (বর্ণনাসূচক বাক্য) :
Birds fly. Man is mortal. Kolkata is a large city. I do not love him. These are not my books. He did not go to school yesterday.
উপরের Sentence -গুলির প্রত্যেকটি সাধারণ ভাবে কোন না কোন ঘটনার বর্ণনা করিতেছে। এইভাবে যে Sentence দ্বারা সাধারণভাবে কোন না কোন ঘটনার বর্ণনা করা হয় তাহাকে Assertive or Declarative Sentence বলে।
Assertive Sentence -কে Statement – ও বলা হয়। এইরূপ Sentence – এর শেষে full stop (.) দেওয়া হয়।
(2) Interrogative Sentence, Questions (প্রশ্নসূচক বাক্য):
Is he a good boy? Have u a pen? Do you go there? Who are you? Where do you live? What does he want? When will he come here?
উপরের প্রত্যেকটি Sentence – এ এক-একটি প্রশ্ন করা হইতেছে৷ এইরূপে যে Sentence দ্বারা কোনো প্রশ্ন করা বুঝায় তাহাকে Interrogative Sentence বা Question বলা হয়।
Interrogative Sentence – এর শেষে Question Mark(?) বা প্রশ্নবোধক চিহ্ন দিতে হয়।
(3) Imperative Sentence (আদেশ, উপদেশ বা অনুরোধসূচক বাক্য):
Go there at once. Do not run in the sun. Please lend me a book.
উপরের তিনটি Sentence -এ ক্রমে আদেশ (order), উপদেশ (advice) ও অনুরোধ (request) করা বুঝাইতেছে। এইরূপ যে Sentence -দ্বারা কোনো আদেশ, উপদেশ বা অনুরোধ প্রকাশ করা হয় তাহাকে Imperative Sentence বলে।
Note: Imperative Sentence -এর শেষে Full stop (.) বসে এবং Subject word ‘you’ উহ্য থাকে৷ তদুপরি এই ধরনের Sentence -এ verb সর্বদা Present Tense-এর হয়।
(4) Optative Sentence (ইচ্ছা, আকাঙ্ক্ষা বা প্রার্থনাসূচক বাক্য):
May you be happy. May God bless him. Long live her Mother Land. May he live in peace.
উপরের Sentence তিনটিতে বক্তার ইচ্ছা, আকাঙ্ক্ষা বা প্রার্থনা প্রকাশ করা হইয়াছে। যে Sentence -এ বক্তার ইছা, আকাঙ্ক্ষা বা প্রার্থনা প্রকাশ করে তাহাকে Optative Sentence বলে৷
Optative Sentence – এ সাধারণত ‘May’ verb Sentence -গোড়ায় বসে এবং শেষে Full stop (.) দেওয়া হয়৷
কখনও কখনও Optative Sentence- এ ‘May’ verb না থাকিতেও পারে৷
(5) Exclamatory Sentence (আবেগ বা বিস্ময়সূচক বাক্য) :
What a fine bird it is ! How lovely the rose is ! Alas, I am undone ! Hurry, the battle is won ! Water, water everywhere not a drop to drink !
উপরের Sentence গুলিতে বক্তার মনের কোনো আবেগ বা উচ্ছ্বাস প্রকাশ করা হইয়াছে। যে Sentence মনের কোনো আবেগ বা উচ্ছ্বাস প্রকাশ করে তাহাকে Exclamatory Sentence বলে৷
Exclamatory Sentence সাধারণত What বা How দ্বারা আরম্ভ করা হয় এবং শেষে বিস্ময়সূচক চিহ্ন(!) Exclamation Mark বসে।
কিছু Exclamatory Sentence-এর প্রথমে Interjection ও ব্যবহৃত হয় এবং Interjection- টির পর শেষে Comma(,) বা Exclamation Mark (!) বসানো হয়।

Optative
May you have a son. (Affirmative)
May God save the country.(Affirmative)
May he not die young. (Negative)
May he not fall in danger. (Negative)
Exclamatory
What a stupid fellow he has been ! (Affirmative)
What a fool have not I been ! (Negative)
Alas, my friend is no more ! (Negative)
Hurrah, we have won the match ! (Affirmative)
Translation
Assertive Sentence
আমি প্রত্যহ স্কুলে যাই – I go to school everyday.
আমরা কলিকাতা রওনা হইয়াঁছিলাম- We started for Kolkata.
সূর্য পূর্বদিকে উদিত হয়- The sun rises in the east.
আমি আপনার দৃষ্টান্ত অনুসরণ করিব- I shall follow your cxample.
তাহারা আমার আদেশ পালন করিবে- They will obey my orders.
সেখানে কেহ উপস্থিত ছিল না- Nobody was present there.
আমি তাজমহল দেখি নাই- I have not seen the Tajmahal.
নরেন সত্য কথা বলিবে না- Naren will not speak the truth.
ঘড়িটির চাবি নাই- The watch has no key.
তাহার বলার মতো কিছু নাই-He has nothing to say.
Interrogative Sentences
তুমি কি আমাদের স্কুলের ছাত্র?- Are you a student of our school?
রামের ভাই কি ডাক্তার ছিল না?- Will you take a cup of tea ?
রামের ভাই কি ডাক্তার ছিল না?- Was not Ram’s brother a doctor?
তাহার কি হইয়াছে ?- What is the matter with him?
তুমি এখন কোথা হইতে আসিয়াছ?- Where have you come from now?
শ্রেণীর মধ্যে সবচেয়ে ভাল ছাত্র কে?- Who is the best boy in the class ?
তোমার পিতার বয়স কত ?- How old is your father ?
Imperative Sentence
অবিলম্বে সেখানে যাও- Te Go there at once.
সময় নষ্ট করিও না- Do not waste time.
রৌদ্রে দৌড়াবে না- Do not run in the sun.
নিজের পড়া শিখ- Prepare your lessons.
মাঝে মাঝে আমাকে লিখিও- Please write to me now and then.
অনুগ্রহ করিয়া তাহাকে যাইতে দিন- Please let him go.
আমরা এখন যাই- Let us go now.
Optative Sentences
তুমি সুখী হও- May you be happy.
ভগবান তোমার মঙ্গল করুন – May God bless you.
তোমরা দীর্ঘজীবি হও- May you live long.
ঈশ্বর তাহাকে শান্তি দিন- May God grant him peace.
আমরা যেন জীবনে উন্নতি করিতে পারি- May we prosper in life.
তাঁহার আত্মার সদগতি হউক- May his soul rest in peace.
Excamatory Sentences
কি মনোহর দৃশ্য !- What a charming sight it is !
হায়, আমার কি সর্বনাশ হইল !- Alas, I am undone !
তুমি কি বোকা !- What a fool you are !
বাঘটা কি ভয়ংকর !- How terrible the tiger is !
আজ কি গরম !- What a hot day this is !
হুররে, আমরা খেলায় জিতিয়াছি- Hurrah, we have won the game.
এইরূপ অপমানের চেয়ে মৃত্যু শ্রেয়- Death before such dishonour.
